Welcome to Fundamentals of Media Production!
Assignments:
Script; Due: 9/9/21
Students will write a 3-5 page script. Full creativity is given. Students may use either the narrative script format or the A/V script format. Students may choose any genre and choose any type of media, for example a drama, comedy, horror, PSA, documentary, etc. Scripts will be graded on format, directional skill, and timely submission.
Storyboard & Shotlist; Due: 9/16/21
Students will create a Storyboard and Shot List based off of the script they wrote in the first Assignment. Storyboard and Shot List templates can be found on Blackboard. Students will be graded on directional skill and timely submission.
Shooting Exercise; Due: 9/28/21
Students will be given a list of shots and camera movements, then they will go out and capture footage of those shots and movements. Upon their return to class, we will review. Save this footage as it will be utilized in Assignment 6. Students will be graded on directional skill and timely submission.
Lighting Exercise; Due: 10/12/21
Students will recreate a lighting effect of their choice using light sources within their environment. Take photographs or video of the effect and submit via Blackboard. Students will be graded on creativity, directional skill, and timely submission.
Sound Effects Exercise; Due: 10/19/21
Students will create a list of sound effects based off a given script, then they must record sound effects that would be suitable for the script. These sound effects will also be used for Assignment 6. Students will be graded on directional skill and timely submission.
Editing Exercise; Due: 11/16/21
Students will take the footage they shot from Assignment 3 and the sound effects they procured from Assignment 5 and edit them together to make a short video. Students may use other sound effects from Royalty free sites, but at least one sound has to be an original recording. Students will be graded on directional skill and timely submission.
Final Exam Project; Due: 12/14/21 - 12/16/21
Students will create a media based project that includes pre-production, production, and post-production elements. Students will write a 5-10 page script, submit a storyboard and shot list. Then students will film and edit their projects (3-5 minutes in length) for submission at the Final Exam period. A rubric for the Final will be provided. Students may choose either a short narrative film, music video, commercial, or short documentary.
